Shalimar is a self-taught artist who has been using art as a means of self-expression since she could first pick up a paintbrush. She has developed her technique through self-study and experimentation, slowly mastering the use of color and texture by exploring themes inspired by her own life experience. With oil paint as her preferred medium, she wields a palette knife to carve and layer dimension into her pieces. She has always felt a special affinity for what is underappreciated and overlooked. This is one of the reasons she has always been drawn to painting: it gives a voice to the voiceless, and shows that beauty can be found everywhere, even in the most surprising places. Shalimar has been painting professionally for 10 years and has sold pieces in Europe, Canada, Australia, and over 38 states in the US. Her gallery and studio are located in downtown Cary, NC.
