Frequently Asked Questions

Read FAQs

How can I reach you?

We're a small team and we love hearing from collectors. Don't hesitate to reach out.

How do I care for my painting?

Each piece is finished with a protective varnish. To remove dust, gently wipe with a dry microfiber cloth — nothing wet, no sprays.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Oil paintings can take up to 12 months for the underlying layers to fully cure — avoid placing anything directly on the surface during this period
  • Keep your piece out of direct sunlight and high-UV areas to preserve color over time
  • For long-term protection, framing is recommended — it shields the edges and prevents the canvas and wood from warping

Do you host events or exhibitions?

Yes — we host at least one major exhibition each fall, along with smaller events throughout the year. Our studio and gallery space is also available for private event rentals.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, checks, all major credit cards, and Affirm for flexible financing.

How does the commission process work?

Commissions start at $10,000 and are limited to 10 pieces per year — each one receives Shalimar's full attention. The process typically takes 12–24 weeks depending on complexity and the studio schedule.

To secure your commission, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required upfront, with the remaining balance due upon completion.

How is artwork priced?

Shalimar's original works are priced at approximately $2.50–$3.50 per square inch, reflecting the scale, complexity, and materials of each piece. Pricing is reviewed annually as demand and expertise grow.

How does shipping work?

As a small team, we want to ensure that each piece is packed appropriately.

Most pieces ship free within the US. Please allow 2–4 weeks for delivery — each work is handled with care by our small team.

For pieces where shipping isn't listed as free, costs are calculated based on final dimensions, weight, destination, and packaging. We'll always send a shipping quote for your approval before anything is dispatched.

Standard pieces ship via UPS or FedEx. Large works exceeding 45" × 45" are handled by Navis Pack & Ship specialists.

International shipping is available — reach out at 919-213-0440 or info@artbyshalimar.com for a custom quote.

Shipping and Delivery

  • Saturday: 11 AM – 2 PM and 5 PM – 8 PM

Framing

Our frames are handcrafted by Myron Weiler, Shalimar's uncle and a woodworker with over 40 years of experience. Built to be both beautiful and sturdy, each frame can be customized in silver, champagne gold, gold, or gunmetal to complement your piece perfectly. To protect your canvas and preserve the integrity of your art long term, we strongly recommend framing. For inquiries and quotes, reach out to info@artbyshalimar.com.

What is your return and exchange policy?

All original artwork sales are final. That said, we want you to love what you bring home.

  • Exchanges or gallery credit may be requested within 14 days, provided the piece is in its original condition and packaging
  • Commissioned works are final sale, though gallery credit may be considered if the piece isn't the right fit
  • Damaged on arrival? Notify us within 48 hours with photos and we'll work toward a resolution

What if my order is lost or stolen?

If your order appears to be lost, please contact our customer service team with your order number and we'll investigate the issue. In cases where the package was marked as delivered but is missing, it may be considered stolen. While we don't directly replace stolen items, we recommend you file a police report and contact your home insurance for possible coverage.
